Career Interest

Thuan Ong, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor and was a Health Resources and Services Administration Geriatric Academic Career Awardee (GACA). He received his MD degree from Saint Louis University, returned west to complete internal medicine residency at University of California, Davis, and completed geriatric medicine fellowship at UW. He is a clinician educator. Dr. Ong practices both primary care and consultative geriatrics in the inpatient and post-acute care setting. He focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles in older adults and in educating health professionals to be competent in the care of older adults. He is the Medical Director for UW Post-Acute Care and a Section-Chief in the Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine.

Research Interests

Dr. Ong’s research focus is on developing methods and tools to assess learner competency in providing care to the aging population. He teaches medical students, internal medicine residents, and geriatric medicine fellows on how to provide quality care for older adults in different care settings. He is the Principal Investigator for the GACA. He is a medical director for Providence Hospice of Seattle.
